Funny Quotes from Owen

Lately Owen has been cracking me up with the words that come out of his mouth. He is becoming such a little man. For example:

~On the way home from a friend's house on Sunday afternoon Owen asked his dad, "Daddy, do you want to help me build my playset when we get home?"

~Owen, Daddy, Grandma, and I were all playing "Hi, Ho, Cherrio," this is a preschool game, where you spin the spinner, when you land on a number you have to pick that amount of cherries off your tree and put them in the basket, when you land on the bird or dog, you have to put two cherries back on the tree, and when you land on the basket you have to put all of the cherries back on the tree. Well, we played a few rounds of this game and Owen won every one. Finally, we were playing our final round and Daddy announced, "I won!" to which Owen replied, "Oh-My-Goodness, guys put them back!"

~A delivery truck was at our house unloading some bedroom furniture. Only Owen and I were home, and boxes from the playset were laying across the garage floor. The boxes were not heavy, they were just long and awkward and I wanted to stack them on top of each other. I asked Owen to grab one end while I lifted the other, we stacked three boxes up and when we got all done Owen said, "you're a good helper, Mommy."

~The phone rang the other day and Owen answered it, I heard him say, "hello," twice, then he looked at me, stretched out his arm with the phone in it and said, "Mom, it's your mom." When I got on the phone I asked my mom if she identified herself as my mom, but all she said, was "hello, how are you."

~I was sitting at the kitchen table this morning doing homework, when Owen walked through and said, "if you need me I will be outside!"

~Grandma, Owen, Lyla, and I were having lunch at Chili's. Owen was sitting in a seat where he had a clear view out the window to the main road. He was quietly watching the traffic pass, when suddenly he exclaimed, "Look a beer truck!" I am used to the exclaims of excitement when he sees a firetruck, garbage truck, or ambulance, but I was very surprised to hear that my son knoew that a truck that read, BudLight, with no bottle pictured, was a beer truck!

~Grandma and Owen were reading books on the couch, Grandma says, "this is the last book tonight, ok." Owen replied, "Yes, so you can read it 10 times!"

~While sitting the doctor's office waiting for the doctor, Owen got the hiccups. He looked at me with all seriousness and said, "Mom, scare them out of me!"

~Our two-year-old, has been very interested in the potty lately. No one can go to the bathroom without him tagging along, wanting to turn on the light, shut the door, watch, then flush the toliet for you. Well, Owen was going to the bathroom the other day, with Max standing right there next to him, when Owen said, "Max, get out of my business!"

~Owen and I were at the grocery store, he was asking for treats, to which I kept denying him. We were walking back to get milk, when he tried again for a treat. He asked for popsicles. Finally, I gave in, since this was the cheapest treat he had asked for. I was looking for the ones that are usually 10 for $10. While I was looking Owen spotted Dora the Explorer ones where each popsicle was in a different shape. Here was Owen's persuasion technique: (think of a child looking at you with head titled to one side, speaking in a sweet tone), "they have shapes."

~Owen, Daddy, and Grandma were playing pretend "Minute to Win it," games. Owen had the hiccups, and during one of the instructions to the games Owen was explaining, he snorted. When asked what that was he said, "it was just my pig, my flying pig!!"

~Owen was watching the boys play basketball in the street beside our house. He had a stoll out there to look over the wall, next thing we know, he has a chair out there too and is nowhere to be found. He had hopped over the wall. During this process he scrapped up his hands. Later that night Owen was talking to me about this experience and told me he fell and broke his head, but then he went to the head store and got a new one!

Self Induced Sleepless Night

Ok, so I decided I just couldn't resist having a side of chocolate chips with my salty popcorn last night. As a result, I was up from 1-2 patting a very fussy baby's back, then another two hours sleeping in the chair with her because she was just not content anywhere else. I blame the chocolate. I had not eaten chocolate in a few days and we had had some pretty good nights. I guess the chocolate chips will just sit in the fridge and the chocolate muffins will remain in the freezer until I can finally eat them again!

Kiss Me I'm Irish

Yes, I'm a little late on this St. Patrick's Day post, but I couldn't help but post this picture of our boys kissing. This never gets old for me, I think it is adorable and makes my heart melt everytime they give each other a kiss and hug. I had been trying to capture a kiss goodnight on camera for months now, it just so happened that they were dressed up for St. Patrick's Day when I finally did.

Max never goes to bed at night or down for a nap without giving Owen a kiss. When they are fighting and one has hit the other one, I tell them kiss whoever has been wronged and they will.

After enduring an entire day of breaking up arguments it melts my heart to see them kiss each other goodnight.

It's these little moments I have to keep in mind when they have me so overwhelmed with their fighting or fit throwing!

Big Helper

Last weekend Gavin and his friend Chris laid the patio cement. In order to get ready for this project, Gavin had to take out the existing dead grass. To our suprise Owen wanted to help and was actually pretty good at it. It was a proud moment for Gavin to have his son working at his side.

February 16th

Febuary 16, 2006 is the day that I packed two suitcases and boarded a plane bound for Las Vegas. I left my husband of just 6 short months in Michigan to finish out his teaching contract for the year and I ventured on ahead to start my own teaching career. I had never been in Vegas before and I would be living with my brother-in-law. I was extrememly nervous to start this new chapter in my life, but I knew more than anything I wanted to have kids and Gavin had told me that we couldn't even think about that until we both had full time jobs. Well, after dozens of interviews and still no job, I decided to look outside of our comfort zone in Michigan and within days of submitting my application to the Clark County School District I was on a plane!

And exactly five years later on February 16, 2011, we brought our third child, the completion of our family home from the hospital, our daughter, Lyla Anne.

***I know this post is late, it would have been nice to post it on February 16th, but I was a little busy that day!***

Grandma Swap

Last night Grandma Debbie arrived in Vegas and Grandma Sue departed. Grandma Debbie flew in around 5:30, Grandma Sue didn't need to be at the airport until 8:00ish, so we decided instead of picking Grandma Debbie up, then turning right around to drop Grandma Sue off, we would cram everyone in the van and go out to eat in between.

Owen was super excited and couldn't stop talking, Max wasn't sure what to think, and I couldn't help but document having two grandmas in Vegas at the same time!

Thank you Grandma Sue for all your help the past four weeks. Welcome Grandma Debbie, hope you are ready for all our craziness!

***Before leaving for the airport, I went to put a sleeper on Lyla, there was no way I was going to zip it up, I had to get out a size 3-6 months! My baby is growing so fast!!***

Mommy's Frusturation Part 2

Apparently Lyla knew that she pretty much had me at my breaking point, because the last couple of days she has been a much better baby! Although, I am writing this before 5am, we just had a great night's sleep.

Sadly I think it is all due to me cutting chocolate out of my diet. She had been so fussy and gassy at night, so I got to thinking, what am I consistently eating that may be upsetting her? Chocolate and coffee were the answer. My next question was how long does it take a food to reach my milk? I decided it was easiest to cut out chocolate for a little experiment.

Well, two days without chocolate has equalled two good nights of sleep.

Anyone who knows me knows, that I am a chocoholic, I seldom go a day without chocolate. I keep chocolate chips on hand in the fridge for when my kids are stressing me out or for an evening snack. Eliminating chocolate from my diet is going to be hard, but if it makes for a happy baby, I guess it is a sacrafice I will happily make.

Can babies outgrow a reaction to a food mommy eats?

(Here's an article I found that proves my theory that she could be affected by the chocolate).
